Changes in family structure are a common occurrence across families with young children, and we are interested in learning more about how these experiences affect child development. This study has the potential to help us understand why some children adjust well to changes in in their families while others do not handle these changes very well. If we can get a better understanding of the short-term and long-term changes in children experiencing parental separation, we could use that knowledge to help kids in the future learn how to be resilient to these changes.

The purpose of this study is to learn about how parent-child interactions affect children’s socioemotional development. Repeated daily interactions with caregivers are quite common and we would like to better understand how children’s responses to fear and distress are shaped by these interactions.
